  • Overview

    An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Finance Assistant to join the Royal Society of Chemistry on a permanent full-time (35-hour week) basis at our Cambridge Science Park office (free onsite parking and close to public transport).


    Your key role will be to support our processing functions in the delivery of an efficient and effective accounts processing service. This is a highly customer focussed role supporting The Royal Society of Chemistry: the world’s leading chemistry community. With over 55,000 members and an international publishing and knowledge business, we are the UK’s professional body for chemical scientists, advancing chemistry for the benefit of science and humanity.


    As Finance Assistant your responsibilities will focus on processing information accurately and in line with accounting deadlines in respect of any or all of the following areas, as requested by either the Treasury or Processing Supervisors;

    • Banking
    • Employee Expenses
    • Credit Card Expenses
    • Cash Advances       
    • Member and Non-Member Expenses
    • Nominal Ledger
    • Credit Control               

    The priority and focus of your duties may vary from day to day and over time.


    We are looking for: 

    • A good understanding of double-entry accounting and a working knowledge of;
    • Finance Accounting Systems [Currently Sun/Vision/Proactis]
    • On-line Banking Systems [Currently NatgWest Bankline and Cambridge Online Payments]
    • Proficient in the use of MSOffice [Outlook, Excel, Word]
    • A clear understanding of key procedures in the Finance Department, able to explain these to personnel and ensure they are always adhered to.
    • Able to work to the requirements of detailed daily, weekly and monthly accounting cycles and deadlines ensuring that internal and external customers’ needs are met.
