The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) is looking for a Publishing Assistant (Customer Services) to join us, based at the Science Park Cambridge (free onsite parking and close to public transport).


This opportunity is available on a temporary full time basis for approximately twelve months to cover maternity leave. Very occasional ad-hoc working from home may be possible and hours can be flexible to accommodate you starting between 8am to 10am or finishing between 3pm to 6pm, as long as you can work 35 hours per week, based at our office.

As Publishing Assistant (Customer Services), you will support our Journals teams through a range of publication and administration processes, contributing to the growth and quality of the journals, whilst providing excellent customer service. Our Customer Services team plays a key role enabling the Journals Publishing team to achieve its aim of being the first choice publisher for authors through providing a superior customer (authors, reviewers and readers) experience in line with the Royal Society of Chemistry’s strategy.


We are looking for:



  • Previous administration experience is required.
  • A high-standard of word processing and record-keeping, and the ability to use other software packages associated with PCs and opening and manipulating of file attachments of varying types of software.
  • Good organisational and time management skills are required, together with the ability to work under pressure and prioritise to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and be responsible for own workload.
  • Good attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills in interacting with internal and external contacts are essential.
  • The ability to acquire and maintain a good working knowledge of Royal Society of Chemistry Publishing products and services.
  • Good general standard of education.


  • Previous experience in STM publishing would be an asset.
